Wednesday Wist Mix: November 2, 2005

Patty Loveless - Hurt Me Bad

And I thank my lucky stars each night
When you're in my arms
And your holding me tight
I realize what it means
To have your true love

This was a song I remember from when I was in middle school/high school and listened to only "pop-like" country. I have a deep appreciation for Patty Loveless. She's timeless and has a beautiful voice. When I was in the car with my parents during this time in my life, country music was the only music that I could listen to. I'm such a lyrics fan that I soon knew all the lyrics of most country songs of that time period and sang along everytime I could...when I could...I would make my dad sing with me...he usually only did that when we were alone...but I still treasure those moments of being in the truck with my dad, singing old/new country songs. I'd like to relive that.

Low Millions - Eleanor

You left your smell, you left your taste,
you left me here with my mistakes.
And I can't relate to what you say I've done,
but just for you, I'll bite my tongue.

I don't know if you've heard me talk about it before, but I listen to a station here in Maine called WCLZ. It is this independant station that plays music that is not usually mainstream. This song is one of those songs I discovered from that station. Low Millions have a good sound to them. Folky but rocking....great lyrics....good sounding music. Catchy tune!!

Rachael Yamagata - Worn Me Down

Gone - she’s gone.
How do you feel about it?
That’s what I thought.
You’re real torn up about it.
And I wish you the best
But I could do without it
And I will because you’ve worn me down
Oh, I will because you’ve worn me down

I *heart* Rachael Yamagata. She has this beautiful voice and her lyrics are just...well...good. She was a WCLZ pick as well. I got to meet her band in the Old Port one night and they were a good group of young guys. This song deals with a girl who is dating a man who isn't over his ex. Listen to the song...You'll find it as catchy as I do!!!

Indigo Girls - Ghost

when you kiss me like a lover
then you sting me like a viper
i go follow to the river
play your memory like the piper
and i feel it like a sickness how this love is killing me
but i'd walk into the fingers of your fire willingly
and dance the edge of sanity i've never been this close
in love with your ghost

Wow. This song brings back memories. I started listening to the Indigo Girls in college...way after it was cool to have discovered them. I love the way they sound...the harmonies...the messages.....but anyway...this song most reminds me of my old bestfriend Aaron. At one time we dated and then broke up...then dated...then broke up....then dated again..so on and so forth. I put this song on a mix tape for him. Now everytime I hear it...it reminds me of driving through Vermont near Burlington, listening to this music....having the windows down. So such a bad memory...:)

Soul Coughing - Circles

But I can’t sigh now that you made the move
It has gone and gone to dogs, lay down on the floor
For the right price I can get everything
Slip into the car, go driving to the farthest star

This group was one of my ex's favorites for awhile. They had this REALLY annoying song about numbers that he sang over and over again and put on every mix he made for like 3 months. I had a chance to see them in concert with my friend Pam, when they were one of the bands that opened for Everclear. I remember when Soul Coughing was performing, I waited to hear the numbers song..just so I could go back to Jeff and let me him know that _I_ had heard it :) This song isn't annoying though...it's almost peppy!!

After reading this I had to go listen to the song "Ghost" it makes me all sad every time I hear it for various reasons, but better at the same time too. MY favorite line(s):
"Mississippi's mighty it starts in Minesotta at a place that you could walk across with five steps down. And I guess that's how you started like a pinprick to my heart. And at this point you rush right through me and I start to drown."
